Shoes and tatting

Shoes with tatting lace

Last night I went searching on Amazon for some interesting tatting books. After browsing through so many (already familiar) covers, I found one that caught my eye. The title is: Ex Libris Obscura : 6 Dark Academia Inspired Patterns For Shuttle, by Sparrow Kelley (who designed the patterns), Betty Rueda (who wrote the short story, as a bonus), and Ash Nunez (who took the photos). This is the link:

I thought the cover design was so beautiful that I decided to buy it. I usually buy my books to read on Kindle (they're cheaper, by the way), but this time I wanted the printed version, as I'd love to have it on my small 1-column bookshelf in my bedroom. The delivery date is September 3rd (it takes a while because I live in Brazil, it is an international order).

The book is also for sale on other websites, like this one:

Well, after buying the book, I googled the author and discovered that she has a website called Spite & Sparrow. She has some free tatting patterns on her blog. When I saw the shoelace ornament, I was thrilled. I loaded two shuttles (but it could have been done with just one) and started working on the pattern. It was one of the quickest tatting patterns I've ever made. But the joy it brought me is lasting much longer. I liked it so much that I wanted to come here and write this post, and show the result of my work:

Isn't it beautiful? Here's the pattern link:

Happy tatting!
